When I first joined CELCAT, the colleague who trained me likened the Events Wizard to a chainsaw. A tool capable of doing some hard work in a fraction of the time it takes to do it manually, but dangerous in the hands of an inexperienced user.
It’s a fitting illustration because it highlights how powerful the Events Wizard is. The in-built safety features (shown below) should ensure the timetabler makes the changes they intended to make, but:
Always read the small print, it’s excellent advice.
Run a test, to confirm the number of events affected by the change, before committing to the change.
The test results are reported to the user along with a useful reminder.
With the comprehensive list of operations the Events Wizard can perform, there is real power at your fingertips.
The wizard has extensive filtering to allow the timetabler to select the specific events they want to change; general filters include weeks, days, period’s event category, department, event name, event status and custom fields. Duration and event required capacity are also included to further refine your search.
More explicit filters, related to resources, are provided. In the case of Rooms, for example, Room Layout and Room fixture can be used.
The following video demonstrates a real ‘use case’ - where a timetabler needs to exchange some on-site rooms with an online virtual room for some specific events.
