Tiltyard
The Brays was an enclosed area used to host medieval contests. Now used as a car park. The Tiltyard is the thin strip of land at the top of the causeway and was used in jousting. Walking across the Tiltyard toward the castle entrance, you're pacing the ground where knights in shining armour once battled! The Great Mere
At one time a large lake surrounded the fortress providing excellent defences. The Mere was also used by the Elizabethans in pageantry. Events
These events are generally fun and not to be taken too seriously.
The Ford
The road by the castle regularly floods after heavy rain. Castle Welcome
